If you were out of pocket, how much did you pay for your fresh IVF cycle and where did you go?
In 2011 I got 2 for 1 at Shady Grove for $15,000 (with ICSI) In 2011 Shared Risk (6 cycles allowed) at GW for $22,000 (with ICSI and AH) |
| Just curious, why so reluctant to share? |
I shared on your other thread, but I think the reason is that it is both a sore spot for most folks and that the prices are fairly standard at different clinics. |
|
PP, thanks for sharing.
I'm just surprised that people don't want to see exactly what they are spending compared to others. Seems to me that paying for IVF is like paying for a car or mattress. There seems to be space for negotiation. I'm negotiating now and have already shaved some $$$ off sticker price...and not done yet... But have no idea if that's good or just what everyone ends up paying and I'm not really getting a deal. If we all shared what we spent at least we'd know what the going rate 'should be', right?! |

I'd also like to know this. I am exploring IVF right now at both CFA and GWU. I have CFA's price sheet, but it really does vary depending on how your cycle turns out. CFA's base is $10,000, but that doesn't include a lot of things you'd want in an ideal cycle. Like if you do a 5 day transfer, the cost of housing your embryos from day 3 to 5 is $1500 more. ICSI is $2,000, freezing and storing extra embryos (which I see as ideal) is something like $2500. So it could range from $12,000-$15,000 before you've bought a single med.

| Does anyone know what the parameters are for shared risk at GW? I can't find anything on their website. |
This must be new. I did IVF with a 5dt in 2011 and I did not have to pay for the storage. I understand that storage beyond transfer costs, but $1,500 for the two days strikes me as insane. |
Agreed! Especially for something the clinic and embryologist s should be wanting and striving for?! |
| I think a lot of people in this town have IVF coverage through their insurance and that is the reason you aren't getting as many bites to this post. |
| After using all 3 IVF cycles allowed by insurance, I paid about $10K for 2 cycles (no ICSI and no PGD included). |
| I'm one of the unlucky peeps "in town" who is 100% OOP. I missed the age cut-off for SG's shared-risk program, so we did their multicycle program. $16,000 for 2 fresh cycles + any FETs which included pretty much everything except meds. (Ours was $17,500, because we needed ICSI for MFI issues.) |
| Not the OP, but thanks, everyone, for sharing! I'm just starting to look at options, but being OOP for IVF is one of my primary concerns. These prices - especially the shared risk programs - aren't as bad as I was imagining! |
| PP- keep digging with your insurance too. My insurance (Unitedhealthcare) doesn't cover IVF but they have a program called UnitedHealth Allies that works with Shady Grove (and you can nominate any office - just takes time to get approved) to give you a discount off the sticker price. In my case that was 30% off! |
I paid $6,900 for an IVF cycle at GW in late 2011. That included ICSI and assisted hatching (not PGD). Meds were an additional $3,500, approximately. All out of pocket.
Absolutely, negotiate. GW offered me a discounted rate because they wanted to "steal" me from CFA. If you're out of pocket, you do have some value to them; no insurance paperwork, just a nice clean transaction. So why not try to make that work for you? All they can say is no. |
| I am 16:34 from above. I just got GWU price sheet, but I have CFA's at home. I'll put up the info on those later tonight. I think having this stuff out there is only helpful to other's going through this! I'm curious if I can negotiate the cost down too since I'm out of pocket. |
