Successfully appealed to get DC into AAP?

If you have successfully appealed to have your child accepted into the FFX AAP, please post what you did. Could use some help.

Is this for a student who moved in from out of the county?
I appealed for my child a few years ago. I included WISC scores that were equivalent to the school administered testing and wrote a letter explaining why my child needed to be in the AAP classroom. I included information in the letter that I had not realized was pertinent for the regular application process. No additional work samples, no letters from outside coaches or teachers. Every situation is different, though, and there is really no way of knowing what information was the straw that changed the committee's decision.

WISC scores and the mandatory form. Did not submit anything else with appeal.

We live in the county, but DD's scores are not quite high enough for AAP. I know she should be in a more specialized classroom than the mainstream.

Think about the regular application before worrying about the appeal. Write a letter describing why she needs a specialized class.

What grade is your child in now?

Why? Is she LD? Truly gifted? Or is this a parental wish? It seems the majority of parents in this county think their kids needs something more specialized than mainstream, but the question is whether there is truly a need.

It's October. Why are you asking about an appeal? Is your child in 3rd grade now and didn't get in last spring?

So true. And only a tiny fraction of these kids actually "need" a specialized learning environment. I think too many parents look at AAP as some kind of badge of honor, giving them bragging rights. If your child doesn't get in, just appeal! No worries.
