Recommend a place to buy new and well designed front door

Anonymous
We'd like to replace our very unattractive front door with something well designed and high quality. We did a check at Home Depot and Loews and were very disappointed in the selection.

Any recommendations for local sellers and/or online sellers that carrya good selection of front doors?

Thank you!

Warning: front doors are very expensive, esp wood. If you can use something pre-made you may be able to save money but if your door is not a standard size, it will be expensive.

E.g. our new wood door cost $4.5k (installed, the door itself was close to $3k). I thought this was crazy but we had quotes from 7 different companies and they were all in the same range or more. Our house was built in 1895 and the door was not a standard size.

Can you name the company that installed your door? Were you happy with the work? Not OP, but we also need a new door and have been expecting that it would cost at least as much as you cite.

Funny, to build a home, they aren't spending 7.5K on the front door.

And usually that's apparent.

Yes, unless you are installing a door in a mansion, it should not cost that much. If you do indeed have a mansion, ask your neighbors for a recommendation.

Btw, try signature hardware and local lumber yards. You need a good carpenter and there will be plenty there.

For master carpenter recs., would try Rick McDougal of RCM Enterprises.
