I keep hearing about private preschools on this board. Are there any public preschools in DC and is the reason nobody mentions them because they are not good? |
There are public pre-K programs for 4 y.o.'s in the elementary schools, but places are allocated among eligible residents by lottery. I have never heard of public programs for younger children, although that doesn't mean there aren't any... |
There are a number of pre-school co-operative programs offered through the DC Parks and Recreation dept. There is a small fee associated with these programs, I think it's 35.00 a week. The one my daughters attend (Mitchell Park) is great. It has been the perfect introduction to school, and my girls are thriving there. We are looking at public /charter Pre-K programs for the fall. |
I believe the Parks program only goes until noon... and I think its from age 2.5yrs +
Is that correct? |
yes that's correct. 9-12. i think there are one or two locations that have programs for 18 months to 2.5 years but most are 2.5 years to 5 years. |
