yikes! 28000 per year for sidwell! how much more do you think you are expected to contribute?

is this the most expensive school?
Anonymous
No. GDS is $26-30K depending on grade. Maret is $24-28K. STA is $31K. NCS is $30K. Probably other schools are right around that number or higher.

STA and NCS are the highest -- especially because you have extra start up fees the first year. Expect to pay close to $33K in year one. Field is also high because the tuition does not include lunch and you are expected to buy lunch for the entire school one day per year (another $750, I'm guessing). I've looked at this closely and there is quite a bit of difference ($5000 or so) in the true costs of these schools. Sidwell's tuition includes lunch and almost all fees.

Madeira is nearly $34,000 for day students.

what kind of money do people make to attend these schools?

I make about $200K a year with one child in private, and it's a struggle.

Okay, who is shocked here. Come on...

If this is going to turn into one of those "aren't there any normal (meaning families who earn less than $100K) who aren't on scholarship at these schools" threads, I'll just go ahead and throw up now and stop reading. not sure I can take another "class war' thread on top of holiday stress.

I can't tell if that was the point, or whether the poster honestly wanted to know how much more than tuition you have to pay, but we just did that one a couple of days ago.

I am not sure why anyone is surprised that it is a struggle to pay for these schools even with a family income of $200K. $75K goes to taxes, another $35K goes to the school (with the extra fees included), another $40K to the mortgage. That leaves $50 for the family. It's fine, that's plenty of money. But I couldn't possibly afford to send another kid to private without financial aid.

i think that is our problem. our mortgage is closer to 75,000 not 40K

Count on $2500; of course you can always give more.

Hmmm, it looks like you're starting it yourself. Nobody else is going there.

Landon is 28K, plus assorted fees, so it ends up being around 30K. But they have lunch.

I'm glad people are posting this. I have similar issues. Plus I have two children 18 months apart. I just don't think that I can do it.
