Where can we get merit money with these credentials-

Anonymous
varsity sport 4 years
3.4 unweighted GPA rigorous class load
29 ACT
Is merit money a possibility or are we dreaming? If so, where?

+1 Washington & Jefferson College, Marietta, Juniata, Allegheny, maybe Wooster

A good place to start might be "colleges that change lives." There was a book and now I think there is a website, but essentially it lists liberal arts colleges that are underrated but deliver a great education but are not horrendously selective. A solid student there would definitely have a shot at a nice merit aid package at many of these schools.

I've heard univ of South Carolina has good merit aid.

Depends on which sport and position played.

Try applying to some state schools in the 75 - 150 range of rankings on the US News and World Report List

DDs looking at Clemson now. Based on the stats OP posted, I think Clemson is a bit of a stretch for admission so my guess would be that the chances of merit money are nil.

Miami of Ohio - http://miamioh.edu/admission/finaid/high-school/scholarships/miami-scholarships/merit.html. They will look at the weighted GPA (they did for my DD). Kids love it there, beautiful campus, and they have a great job placement and grad school placement track record.

South Carolina Columbia. What is the weighted GPA?

Also - University of Georgia if the weighted GPA is good enough. (29 ACT is minimum for OOS Classic Scholars awards)

Tulane - golden opportunity as they try to recover form Katrina (still)
