Help! My 2 year old has a really bad case of chapped lips. His cause is not helped by the fact that he keeps licking them like crazy. I have tried to ask him to stop, but you know how that goes. Makes it all the more enticing to do it. I try to get some Vaseline on them when I can, but he licks that too. Anyone else have this problem, or any solutions?
Thanks! |

We've started using Aquafor on the lips and Kiehl sells a baby chap stick. If the lips are chapped enough I think it's ok for them to lick a little as the benefits of healing the lips are going to outweigh the the little bit of stuff they lick up.
My toddler loves chapstick so I have started using Blistex with menthol to keep the lips soft. I've stayed away from flavors so he is not introduced to a tasty snack he might want to bite off and eat. |
| Another vote for Aquafor - - that stuff is unlickoff-able! It's the best I found for chapped anything. My dd used to get chapped lips up to her nose, and someone recommended this to me. One tub will last forever. It's pricey, but you can also get the Walmart brand Eucerin (I think that's what it's called, it will be sitting right next to Aquafor). Also get one in a purse sized tube. It's great for chapped, dry hands and cheeks as well. |
| aquaphor is pretty much the same as vaseline. i'd just keep reapplying in large amounts. |
That's what I thought too until I bought some aquaphor. |
| I'm not sure if it works the same for kids as for adults, but I get really chapped lips when I'm not drinking enough water. Maybe try giving him more water too... |
| Actually Aquafor is of a thick consistency than pure Petroleum Jelly which is why its better for chapped lips and face - it stay on longer. My kids are 5 & 7 and I have been using Aquaphor on their lips and cheeks since babyhood. In the winter (starting about last week) I slick it over their cheeks and mouth area before bed after tooth brushing and face washing every night. It prevents the bad chapped lips and face. |
Me too! I didn't understand what all the fuss over Aquaphor was all about. |
| Another vote for Aquaphor! |
Check the ingredients, they are not the same. The two share one ingredient. |
