Please tell me about Bar-T aftercare at Diamond ES

We are about to move to this school district and do not have much info on the aftercare program there. The Bar-T website is not too informative. Does anyone have experience at this school? Thanks!

Yep - my K child goes to Bar-T at Diamond. The thing I like is that the K kids go to the Pre-K room from about 3:30 -5:00 and then join the rest of the Bar-T (older kids) in the cafeteria after that. So they are not with the older kids for the whole time. So far I really like all the teachers at Bar-T.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I have kids that go there in the morning -- it's fine but its a short time, so they don't have planned activities, it's more free play. They put out a monthly newsletter with planned activities/special theme days. I can send it to you if you want to see, post your email (or create a dummy acct).

Free play sounds nice -- the aftercare we are at now seems to have too much structure and I'd like for my child to have more time to just play and be 5 while it lasts. Is there a lot of outside time with Bar-T? The employees at our current program have told me they go outside "if there is time", and generally they do seem to have the time but if it were up to me the kids would be outside more and doing stuff inside if there is time or the weather is bad rather than the other way around or at least have a better balance (and attitude about it).

To the PP, thank you for the newsletter - my email is BostwickMom at hotmail dot com.

Hi, will send you the newsletter. In the afternoon, kids can do free play, sports, outdoor time, and they have special days like when Mad Science comes in. They also have designated space for doing homework and snacks. I think it's pretty well organized, but again we're only there in the mornings. Oh and this part is really great -- generally if schools are closed, then they are open. This includes professional days, early release days, most of spring break, some of the winter break. I only use that occasionally but it's nice to have that option.
