Place to spend the night half way to NY

We will drive to NY and want to break it up.
Can you recommend a nice hotel or b&b?
Will need two bedrooms, one for us and two kids (4 and 6 years) and another one for my parents.
Thanks

What part of NY? That answer will be very different if you are referring to Buffalo, than if you are referring to New York city or Plattsburgh

Where in NY are you going? That makes half way very different. I've never seen a kid friendly B&B or a B&B room that sleeps 4. Chain hotels with 2 queen beds are going to be your best bet, we've always had good luck with holiday inn expresses when stopping over night on road trips.

We are going to NYC. Could stop around Philadelphia. Or past it. Ideas ?

Why? NYC is only about a 4-5 hour drive from DC.

B&B's don't usually allow children.
staying overnight on a trip from the DC Metro Area to NYC sounds like a huge added headache.

If you must stop Philly has a lot of great hotels.

+1. Why not spend an extra night or two in NYC?

OP, you might want to price out the trip via Amtrak. It may be cheaper than driving once you factor in gas, hotel stay on way, parking in NYC. Kids would love it too. They may have kid fares unlike the airlines.

I wouldn't stop, I would drive there in one trip. It is only 4-5 hours, even if you leave after work on a Friday night you can make it easily.

Second Amtrak. I think the kid fares are 50% of the adult fare. My kids LOVE the train.

Assuming you are going to NYC. We have gone up there a couple times with our young children and usually leave after work in the evening and have them sleep in the car. We do stop short of NY because 1) free parking for at least one night, and 2) hotels a LOT cheaper. We usually stop off the NJ turnpike about an hour short of NYC. Lot's of hotels around Newark airport and the exits before and after that. Then in the morning it's a short drive to NYC so you effectively still have a full day there. Also, you're going to be staying at a hotel. I know of very few B&B's that welcome children.

PP, so can you recommend specialist places, please?

We love Sweetwater Farm in the Brandywine Valley area outside Philly. Takes us about two hours to get there and it should be another couple to NYC. Dogs and children are allowed in the cottages. They only have one with two bedrooms and it's pricey but very nice.
