not surprised that women are doing better than men in college

I'm back in grad school at a well known program in DC that's roughly 50/50 men and women....everyone is well educated, intelligent, go-getters....however the females participate way more in class, do all of the readings prior to class, are more prepared, take better notes, show up to TA sessions/office hours in much greater orders of magnitude...

no wonder you girls are kicking our asses in degree attainment and scholastic performance.

when did this change happen?

Who cares? Men and women need each other. Life is not a competition.

It's the Matriarchy and the Old Girls network crushing the spirit and the wills of boys.

To answer the question, it happened a long time ago, women have been outperforming men in hs and college for something like 20 yrs now, maybe longer. The problem remains segregation among majors as women and men still tend to select different majors.

This first became news in the early 1990s while I was in college. Women were doing better then men in college and getting higher grades.

OP I'm a female and I was like this. I was top of my class in college and was a go getter. It changes when you get into the workplace where being smart and hard working doesn't matter as much as who you know.

I totally get the segregation among majors. I don't know why I didn't figure it out earlier (when I was in college!). Some jobs/majors will have you sell your soul and your weekends to the job, others will allow you to have children and actually see them. I wish I'd chosen the latter.
