Worth it to attend a pre-school open house?

Anonymous
Just found out that 33 schools will be at a preschool open house across town tonight. DS will be a young 2 next September and I'm not sure if I want him in a playgroup or a 2 morning preschool, esp. as I'm not sure what our baby 2 situation will be. It will be a massive inconvenience to make it tonight, but I think I know which schools I want to visit already based on my own research. For BTDT, is it worth the hassle?

Where and when is the open house? Interested for my child who will be two in August.
I've also heard that it's a lot easier to get into a two year old program. All of the incoming children are new so there's much more space...food for thought.

I say no, for two reasons. First, if it's "across town," it's likely to have many schools that you'd reject for lcation reasons. Second, you already know what schools you want to consider and the information you learn in a big fair like this won't be enough to accept or reject the school -- you'll still need to visit them.

Didn't do to a preschool fair like this, but I have heard good things from friends who attended. Chances are there will be another before the individual schools have their open houses
So you may have another chance to go. And yes, as a PP said, you'll likely have to attend those for your choice schools as well.

I've definitely been to school fairs that were a complete waste of time. On the other hand, if you don't go, you never know what you don't know.

Agree. I went to a fall preschool fair, populated by schools within about a 10 mile radius of our home, the year before DS turned 2. It was educational, gave me ideas I would not have had otherwise (e.g., attending the baby/toddler parent activities that some schools offer as a prelude). It was definitely a worthwhile couple of hours.
