New to east coast- where to vacation in driving distance in dec

Anonymous
Where is a nice place to vacation in December for a family with preschool ages children? We'd like to drive and keep it under 4 hours. Any suggestions helpful since we are brand new to the east coast!

In my opinion, most of the nice/interesting places within 4 hours driving are not worth visiting in December when the weather is pretty crappy. Wait until warmer weather. The exceptions might be cities like NY or Philly where you can do museums and indoor things. Or maybe a mountain cabin if that interests you. It is unlikely to be very snowy, however.

December is tough, but you could do Lancaster and go to the Dutch Wonderland Christmas open house days, then the train museums. We like going to the beach off season (though usually not December) - mini-golf is still open, lots of things are open year-round now.

Williamsburg.

NY isn't under 4 hrs.

Another vote for Williamsburg. They have all kinds of vacation packages. We went during an earlier-than-usual March spring break and had a great time.

Agree on Wiliamsburg. We've did it alot for NYE with a toddler and stayed a week or less. We always stayed in a condo with amenities, indoor pools and game rooms. We love King's Creek. Plus there's shopping -- outlets in Williamsburg and a decent mall with a Nordstrom in Norfolk, plenty of museums in the general area. We would go down to Virginia Beach for an afternoon and walk the boardwalk (my dd loved that.) And there are plenty of family friendly restaurants in the area to choose from.

Another thought is Massanuten in Harrisonburg, VA. You could rent a condo, there is an indoor waterpark and lots of planned activities.

Philly is beautiful at Xmas and lots of good hotel deals downtown. 3 hour (or less) drive, 1.5 hours on Amtrak.

1) anywhere with a warm indoor pool or waterpark for preschoolers
2) Plush destination hotel with kid's care or lots of amenities like Homestead, Greenbrier, etc.
Baltimore, Philly, Williamsburg, Lancaster, Massanutten, Charlottesville, you could do a weekend in Gettysburg and go ski at Liberty, Pa. Older preschoolers could do ski camp afternoon and book younger ones at the Liberty daycare. Lots of other ski areas like Wintergreen, Timberline, Snowshoe WV.
I'd suggest finding a cheap fare to as far south in Florida as you can get - Ft. Myers or south.
