Pain in lower abdomen @ 5 weeks

Anonymous
I have been experiencing intermittent piercing pains in my lower left abdomen for about a week now. They only last for a few seconds and usually occur when I stretch or reach for something (which I am trying not to do). No spotting, everything else seems fine (sorry if TMI). Some sites say it's normal ligament stretching while others suggest it is a possible ectopic (which of course scares me). Did anyone else experience this while pregnant?

It's probably best to contact your ob.

I felt similar pains (during similar moving or stretching) with two pregnancies, the first of which miscarried at 5 weeks.
The second time, my current pregnancy, I felt those pains until about week 7 now in week 9, I no longer feel them. So it seems (for me) those pains don't always indicate a problem.

Everything could be just fine, but my suggestion would be to to call your dr. than let the worry get to you.

Thank you so much for your reply. I took your advice and called my Dr. (I guess I was hesitating because I didn't want to be "that partient"). She said it is normal ligament stretching, very common in 1st trimester, and not to worry unless I have any bleeding or spotting. She also said to limit my internet reading because it will drive me nuts (she knows me so well)! Thank you again, I really appreciate it. This is all so new!
