We need to visit family in Europe over Christmas and DH has found relatively cheaper sets on Luftansa. Our DD will be almost 9 months by then. We flew with her this summer when she was 4 months and so we know what a headache traveling can be but we must make this trip.
We have never flown this airline, and before we spend a small fortune on the tickets I wanted to know if anyone has flown this airline with children and have any pros or cons. BTW, for what it's worth, the other airline with the same flights we need is Delta, but when we flew them in August they were not very accommodating with traveling with our baby (plus they lost our gate checked stroller). TIA! |
| From what I hear, Luftahsa's pretty good. You can do it! |
| European carriers are MUCH better for travelling with kids. I haven't flown Lufthansa with ours, but anything is better than Delta! |
| DH flew with Luftansa recently, and thought the service & customer service was EXCELLENT. |
| I love Lufthansa - flew them a couple times when we lived in Europe. They are much better than the US carriers and also nicer than Austrian, which we used to fly a lot as well. |
| Luftansa is great. Try to get a bulkhead seat and request a bassinet. It is a lifesaver on those transatlantic flights with children this age. |

I have flown Lufthansa a few times and have had great experiences. They're customer service was wonderful! Have a good trip!

| DON'T fly delta overseas they suck, European carriers are MUCH better for trans-atlantic flights. |
| I prefer Lufthansa, too. Don't forget to say "Ich fahre nach Deutschland" |

I flew Lufthansa for pretty much the umpteenth time, just two weeks ago. Very good airline, new planes and great staff. I haven't flown long or medium haul with a baby, though.
FWIW, if you need a bassinet on board, be sure to request it early and call several times to confirm that you have seat with a bassinet. On my recent flight, there was a lady traveling alone with her 5 m.o. and while she had been promised a bassinet earlier on, when it came time to board, they told her they'd "see once she had boarded." |

In my experience Lufthansa is always a route share - I think with United - so you might fly on a United plane or Lufthansa. The crew is bilingual. Depending on where you are going, most are direct to either Frankfurt or Munich - used to be to Zurich but I think they cancelled that.
In any event, we always check the route partner's website - the fare can be different if you book through the European carrier or the American carrier even though you are on the same plane! |

International (US - Europe) Alliance Partners
United/Lufthansa United/SAS (Scandanavian) British Air/American Airlines Northwest/KLM Northwest/Alitalia American/SwissAir American/Sabena It doesn't matter which airline you buy the ticket from, if it is a route share (code share) such as DC-Heathrow or DC - Frankfort or DC-Amsterdam you can be on either carrier's equipment. |
| I prefer Lufthansa, too. When you're hungry, don't forget to say "Ich mochte essen" |
