The Washington Redskins name...

I was born and raised in this area and have never considered the name racist or offensive. That doesn't mean I can't now understand why others do. At this point I feel the name change is imminent, but I would be sad to see it go.

It iwll be changed, Snyder has trademarked Washington Warriors and domain names. It is still to be determined if they will move back into DC but right now N. Va is the front runner. They have discussed land swaps and are still trying to get the area where RFK is but the fools at Langston Golf Course don't want the course changed even though thtey were offered to have the entire thing renovated and updated to a first class facility. With the Armory set to come down, there might be ample space to get a new stadium in there wihtout messing withthe golf cours.e

They will not stay at Fed Ex for the end of the lease which is 2020.

I hope you're right about Fed Ex because I HATE that stadium. It is a terrible stadium experience.

Well, I'm the descendent of Vikings, and I'm starting a campaing to make them change their name too.

I've lived my entire life in this area (am early-mid 30s), and have always considered it extremely offensive. I'll discuss local football in terms of players, and not the team identity. Honestly, I think the name makes me want to disassociate from being any kind of fan. I find the fact that we've used what is essentially a slur as the name of our local sports team, incredibly embarrassing as a DC native.

In my opinion, the name change should have been made a long, long time ago. People know the change was always inevitable, and delaying it further accomplished nothing.

Doesn't bother me in the least. I have other things to worry about.

A blistering article, but the lib/PC crowd will never ever acknowledge reality. Sanctimony and ignorance is a terrible combination.

I don't understand this rant. Could you elaborate. Langston Golf Course is no where near RFK stadium. It is separated by a seven lane highway (street) followed by a couple of blocks. In addition, Langston Golf Course is federal land protected by US Parks like Rock Creek. Who is involved in this recommended land swapping?

I definitely think it should be changed. You'd never have a team named after the N word or any other racist name.

I think they should be the Washington Presidents, since they already have the presidents run and all.

There is no excuse for the name. I loathe it and will never root for the team as long as they keep it. Its a slur, pure and simple.

I agree! Not a PC liberal here but I CAN READ. I mean, why don't they just change the name to "Washington White People" or "Washington Brownskins"???

The Presidents race is at Nationals games, not Redskins games.

Washington Bullets was changed to the Washington Wizards. Bullets aren't anything to be proud of, but Redskins is so much more offensive. I can't believe it hasn't been changed yet, and I would never get behind them as a team until they do change it.

I've lived here most of my life too (in my 40s) and I am now a believer that the name MUST be changed. It really has to change. At least two sports journalists are now boycotting use of the 'R' name in their articles and I believe it's a matter of time before others do, too.
