if your HH income is around 200K...

I am curious to hear what people are spending/saving etc if your HH income is around 200K. We were making a HH income of only 70K about 6 years ago so I would have thought at 200K we would be so comfortable. We can pay our bills, travel, get some new things for the house but not room for that much more. We have cars that are paid off thankfully. Just wondering what people are paying for mortgage, daycare, groceries that make this amount to see how I could be spending better.

We combine to almost EXACTLY 200k (it can swing upward by bonuses but we dont count on them).

Mortgage: $2700
Savings: About $2500/mo
Bills / eating out / debts: the rest

We normally have about a $500 - 600 buffer between "the rest" and eating into our savings rate. It's all carefully tracked via budgeting apps.

No kids; but two cars. In the process of getting rid of one as it's excessive for us.

We make 180k, so a little less.
We spend $2800 on our mortgage
No car loans, no daycare.
Groceries at $400 a week. Clothing at $150 a month.
We make sure to always put in 5k a month into our savings account.
We have a 7k travel budget a year that allows us to do one international trip and multiple other little week/weekend trips in the US.

DH does travel a lot so we get extra $$ from per diem plus free airfare anywhere we go.

We aren't rich or too cushy, but I think it's because we're trying so hard to save that 5k a month. One thing we've tried really hard to stick with is that when your income goes up, to keep banking the difference and live like you make what you did when you start.

We were like this until childcare costs basically take up all the savings. We will resume saving once the kids are both in public schools. Right now we are nannying and pre-schooling it.

No offense to PP, but $200K with no kids is EASY.

Childcare is like a second mortgage. We make about $190K, mortgage is $2400/month (after refi, which I would recommend, but I think you've missed the great rates). Childcare is $1600/month. Groceries, about $600/month. Savings are good (we do about 10% of salary until we reach the limit each year) and have built up about a half mil there, but I think we could be doing better avoiding things like eating out to save even more. We also spend a decent amount on classes for DD and on international trips (a must to visit family).

Pre-kid, we were saving $4000/month easy. Now, I think we won't hit that until we're empty nesters!

You're a SAHM and your DH makes $180k? That's also easy. One high earner means no childcare costs and you get a huge tax benefit.

Agree no kids and 200k is easy.

2200 mortgage
We max our 401k
We get new cars every 8-10 years.
We have 2 kids with LDs in a private school that can handle their learning.
Kids play sports (which runs about $5k/year) plus summer camps (another $4k/yr)
Travel is going to local beaches
No debt.

We are happy.

We are a bit more than 200k. After mortgage ($2500), daycare for 2 ($2400), fully funding 2 401ks and IRAs (~45k/yr), and saving for college (10k/yr), we don't save much in other accounts. We spend about $600/mo in groceries and eating out (food only, so tack on another $150-200 in household supplies). Our travel spending varies - can be as high as $10k, or as low as $3k. Also have about $500 in school loans. I know we could probably save more if we cut down on food spending or travel, but I still feel like we're doing pretty well to maintain that level of retirement/college savings while we are still in the daycare for 2 phase.
