Any suggestions for good orchards not too far from NOVA? Ill be taking a toddler so other activities like hay hides, etc ate a plus!

Hartland or Stribling Orchards in Markham VA. It's so beautiful out there. Hartland has a Fall Festival thing with hayrides and a corn maze. But it's like $10/person. I guess it's not pricey compared to Cox, but it was more than I wanted to spend.

Depends on where you are in NOVA. Last year we went to Butler Orchard in Maryland and it was lots of fun for apples and pumpkins. They had a hayride to get out to the pumpkin field which my friend's kid LOVED. This year DS will be old enough to go nuts as well.

Homestead Farms in Poolesville, MD. They have goats and other animals.

Agreed. Apples are ripe now. Hayrides come later when it's time for pumpkins.

I heard that the apples there were not great this year, that they were already bruised.

We went to homestead farms this past weekend and it was excellent. We were so impressed. Highly recommend it.

Hollin Farms in Delaplane- free entrance, corn maze, apple picking, pumpkin picking and veggies too! Very inexpensive.

We just had a great weekend at Great Country Farms and got tons of huge, sweet, crisp apples. They didn't have any Honey Crisp, but they did have lots of other apples. It seemed like everyone in the DC Metro Area was out apple picking this weekend, though, so I'm not sure there are any apples left anywhere now!

We went to Homestead yesterday and lie in DelRay. It was a bit of a haul, but worth it.

I love Homestead. Just wish they had cider donuts!

We went to Great Country Farms this weekend and the apple pickings were slim. There weren't many left and the ones that were all had bruises or were infested with bugs. I love GCF generally, but I wouldn't go for the apple picking this year.

We went to Butler's yesterday. Easy drive and not too crowded. We got to dig for potatoes, pick apples, and pick raspberries. The apples and raspberries were pretty thin, but we ended up with a good haul. It was a beautiful place and they have a nice market with fun foodstuffs and kitchen items.

Definitely disappointed in the lack of cider donuts.
