doeas anyone have any recomendation...I tried a wrap but it was so complicated to use that I just gave up. I need something good and sturdy. I will be traveling(by plane)in a few weeks. My DD is 5 months...Thanks so much |
I have an ergo that I really like. You can use them as your child gets bigger too...front, back, or side. They also have an infant insert, which your baby is probably too big for. |
I second the ergo. I still use it with my 2 1/2 year old. We are traveling by plane this weekend and he will ride my back in the airport. He loves it. |
how about baby bjorn? |
I have a Gypsy Mama wrap which is exactly like a Moby, but lighter weight material. The wrapping business can be complicated and there is a You Tube video that demonstrates how to do it. I just traveled this past weekend with my baby and it was the best thing for getting through airport security and on and off the plane. I wrapped myself before leaving the house and once I got to the airport I put the baby in. No need to take her out at the airport since there is no metal. I had both hands free to take the car seat out of its carrier for the x-ray machine and breezed through everything. |
I had a mei tai-style carrier made by a mom in Virginia called the kozy karrier, and I loved it, right up to about 2 1/2. |
My 5 month old DD LOVES LOVES LOVES the Bjorn. When she sees us put it on she literally does a "happy jig" .... kicking her feet and waving her arms! |

We got a Baby Beco and the quality and material are even better than expected. It comes with instructions and a DVD. It has great shoulder and back support, but is still totally washable/portable. Check out www.theportablebaby.com for in-depth reviews of various carriers. |
I'll third the Ergo. We love it and our big baby doesn't hurt my back anymore. It was an absolute life svaer for our plane trip this summer.
But be warned that regardless of what your carrier is mad of you will have to take your baby out to go through security. It has nothing to do with metal and everything to do with what else an evil person could hide in the carrier. You will also have to take your baby out of the carrier for take off and landings. Some flight attendants are better about enforcing this rule. On US Airways they mentioned it to me as I got on the plane but never checked. On Midwest Express an attendant spent a good 5 min with me showing me the emergency procedures with a lap child. How to wrap him in a blanket and brace him on the floor for a crash, where the extra oxygen mask would come from, where to find the infant life vest. It made me feel a bit better that they paid attention, but also scared me to death because it made me think worst case scenerio. |
My Maya wrap ring sling rocks. I sadly just loaned it to my sister, but was still occasionally using it for my 19mo.
The Breastfeeding Center on K street has a range of carrriers that you can try on and also offers a class. Check out their website. For what's it's worth, I loved wearing my son and look forward to wearing #2! Nothing like a sling to help you carry your gear to the beach or make a PBJ and still be able to hold you little one. |
thank so much...i have ordered an ergo.... |
