does FCPS have any guidelines on qualifications for AAP teachers Vs Non AAP teachers?
I have heard that base teachers can take classes for AAP classroom, I am NOT talking about specials. Any info is appreciated. |

Teacher endorsement information is on the FCPS website: http://www.fcps.edu/is/aap/column/info.shtml |

Teachers who teach in an advanced academic program full-time must have either a Virginia state endorsement in
gifted education or complete the FCPS endorsement in advanced academics. A teacher must meet this requirement within five years of accepting an assignment in advanced academics. That means teachers can teach AAP while they're working on the endorsement. So not all AAP teachers have the endorsement. http://www.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/0/10331566d0d19f5e85256fd300589631/$FILE/R3335.pdf |
| AAP teachers went to Ivy League schools and are much better educated than Gen Ed teachers. |
| Nothing at our school, and it shows. Teachers move over from general ed and then back to aap depending on enrollment. This is a center school - not one of the beter ones. I saw statistics recently on the school board website recently that showed that even AAP center teachers weren't that likely to have the above-mentioned endorsements -- I'm sure someone will post the link soon showing the actual (small) percent with the endorsements. |
Not true. None of DC's AAP teachers went to Ivy League schools. I think the content taught and the pace at which it's taught are the most significant differences between AAP and Gen Ed. They have great teachers and not so great teachers in both programs. |
As it should be. You shouldn't be able to tell the deference between AAP and Gen Ed teachers. Gen Ed kids should be provided with the same quality of teachers as AAP kids. The fact that AAP parents think their kids are entitled to a better quality of teachers than other kids is dumbfounding. |
I don't think there is an argument that they should be better. The argument is that they are required to be AAP endorsed, which means they have special classes in how to educate so-called gifted children. They could be a sucky teacher but be AAP certified. |
Bahahahaha!! Just got my laugh for the day. |
