My 3yr old has been hospitalized twice. At 2 1/2 he started having major constipation issues. Miralax caused some behavioral side effects. I'm looking for natural ways to help him. Any suggestions?
DH bought some fiber bars at Trader Joes and they were very potent. I might start with them.
Our ped. Recs pear juice.

We use this:

This was recommended by my son's therapist as an alternative to Miralax. It is really good!

Seconding th TJ fiber bars. They also have fiber added fruit leather. The bits and pieces bag is a bargain.
Prunes, pear juice.
|
Warm milk with blackstrap molasses in it. If you can get him to drink it (might have to sweeten it)! A great natural laxative.
|
Defecation reflex--have him sit on the toilet for 5 minutes after every meal (got this tip from the GI specialist at Children's)
Thanks!!
Glycerin suppositories.
My DS was chronically constipated until we cut you all cheese and he quit taking allergy meds.
Beans. Got m DS to like retried beans, baked beans and black beans. Instead of bread, rice, etc.
An apple a day keeps the poop away.
A stool softener might make it easier to go. Helped with my older child. Check with a pharmacist or pediatrician to see if it would be appropriate for your child's age and weight.
