I've had this happen to me twice so far. When I stretch my legs in the middle of the night I get this pain when the calf muscle is very very tight, and it lasts for like 20-30 seconds. I'm currently 25 weeks. It's pushed me to excercise more regularly (30 minutes on the elliptical trying for 2-3 times a week).
Has this happened to anyone else? |
Sounds like a charlie horse.
Is the leg/calf/shin muscle is so tight you can't bear to even move it or is the pain so intense it can take your breath away? Check out the archives on advice of charlie horses. Quite common in pregnancy. Some will recommend eating bananas, getting more calcium in your diet, and drinking water. You can massage our the muscle or attempt to stretch it, but it is so difficult especially at 330am. |
charlie horse...very common during pregnancy. make sure you take your vitamins, drink lots of water during the day and eat a banana for potassium. i had it really bad w/ my first one, but i still get it occasionally now w/ my second pregnancy, but def. not as bad. also, make sure you do not ever point your toes. that sort of stretch will kill you.
hang in there! not much time left.... |
Yes this happened to me with both my pregnancies. Like the PP, I've heard eating bananas also help - something to do with the potassium. The best thing that worked for me was to flex your angle so that your foot/leg is at a right angle as much as you can and stand on it leaning slightly forward. That helped it go away the quickest. |
Eat more bananas and drink water. It's a sign of dehydration. |
