Interested in fencing our backyard - am looking for recommendations for local fence builders, or review/comment on Long Fence or Hal Co Fence. Anyone have any info to share?

You'll find a number of threads about fence builders if you search the archives.

We've been thinking about putting in a fence for a while, so I've read a number of threads here and on local listservs, and many people have unfavorable opinions of Long, but I have no experience with them. Accokeek seems to get good reviews.

We used HalCo and were very happy with them. They did good work and their price was the lowest of our three estimates. If you subscribe, there are lots of reviews for both companies on Consumer's Checkbook and probably Angie's List as well.

We had Long and they did a great job, but were very expensive.

We got 3-4 quotes and Long was the cheapest so we went with them. We are very happy with the fence. We also had some complications (while installing, found out outside plug they wanted to use for some equipment didn't work, for instance) and they helped us find solutions as things came up. Also made good suggestions on the plan.

We used Long Fence for windows, not fences, but had a really horrible time (four month process) getting them to honor the lifetime warranty to replace a window. If this is the level of customer service, I would avoid the entire company entirely.

Northern Virginia Deck and Fence - www.nvdeck.com

We also got quotes from Arlington Fence. Quotes were $5 apart. Liked NV specs better.

Reviving old thread with the same question. We are looking in the Alexandria area, if that makes a difference.

Accokeek gets good reviews but we had a horrible experience with them a couple years ago after the derecho. They gave us a quote and were supposed to come out and do the work but never showed and then wouldn't take our calls to explain why. We ended up hiring someone else but would never recommend them due to how unprofessional they were with us.

I was just about to recommend Accokeek, who built our fence a few years ago, but won't do so based on your experience.

We had a very good experience with Mill-to-You. Barry Potter is the owner. He came highly recommended on our neighborhood listserv and our new fence looks great. They were FAST.

We had a metal fence put in by Fenceco of MD. Great bunch of guys. Would hire again.

We used Accokeek and liked them.

Used Clinton Fence. They were okay. Not sure they dug up my old posts so annoyed about that but the results were fine. Reason I went with them is they have a deal where you get a discount on a survey (posted, I needed to be more precise than a plot since I was moving the line) and I needed that. Interviewed Phoenix who got good reviews in my neighborhood but didn't go with them because of the survey.

We used Carter a few years ago, their estimate came about half of what Long Fence offered and the size of the post was better with Carter.
