| Does anybody have insight on whether there will be a lot of attrition ESP. among the Latin students at MV next year if the school moves to the JFK cook school at north cap and p st nw? |
MV is the only school I'd leave my charter for, so here is hoping
|
| They are considering a bus service from there current location. Depending on cost, it may or may not keep its current student body. The new location for us is a disaster and we gave up our lottery spot because of it. |
| The new location is huge and with there mission of being the first "green" charter I'm sure it's going to look nice. If I worked downtown I would have considered this school. |
| We live a couple of blocks from the new location. I'm hoping for a lot of attrition because then maybe my kids will be able to attend! |
| Mundo Verde parents seem very loyal, so I wouldn't bank on much attrition. However, they will probably expand in the new location, so there might be a lot more slots available than usual. |
Where did you go instead? |
A good number of parents I know have already given up their spots in favor of their NW IB schools. They love MV, but new location seems to be a dealbreaker, especially for dual career families who need to minimize driving around. |
We are at E.L. Haynes. |
Are you talking about current families that are leaving next year? How can they give up there spots when the school year just started. Do you mean they plan not to return? There was very little attrition this academic school year. |
| I think some attrition would only make sense. The core of Hispanic DC is northern Ward 1 and southern Ward 4. If you move the school a mile south and east, there has to be some attrition, particularly as the public transportation connections between Columbia Heights, Mt. Pleasant and Petworth and the N. Capitol and Truxton/Bates/whatever area are not very good. |
Agree, however if the bus service if offered maybe that's a away to keep some current families. |
There are other possibilities, right? I am talking about people whose kids were already there or had already gained access via lottery, but chose not to go this school year. |
They will then start calling people off the waitlist? |
At least the people I know already gave notice over the summer, it's not that recent that it may get people off waitlist now. But I am no insider by any means, so I don't know. |
