1. Atheists don't care.
2. Everyone rots in the ground. Unless they are burned to ashes. Or buried at sea (fish food).

The atheists here care VERY much.

It’s been awesome to post the truth that Jesus was a man who walked the earth and existed. No one can seriously deny that.

Anyone who reads the thread understands that now. Thank you atheists, you’ve just given Jesus a lot of posts. Good posts that document the historical evidence and acceptance that virtually ever scholar, believes Jesus existed.

This "truth" applies to evey human capable of walking who ever existed. Nothing awesome about it. A first century Jew named Jesus stands out in history because some people believe he is the son of god. There is no proof for being the son of a deity.

Ehrman says this collection of snippets from non-Christian sources may not impart much information about the life of Jesus, “but it is useful for realizing that Jesus was known by historians who had reason to look into the matter. No one thought he was made up.”

Wow. I didnt know this.

Tacitus wasn’t a Christian. You are deliberately ignoring that fact. Please don’t assume the mantle of fact and logic here because you are complaining ignoring all credible scholars and archeologists on this issue.

Also- are you understanding that to have archeological proof of a peasant from 2,000 years ago would be exceedingly rare? Jesus is contained in 2 of the best and most complete historical records of the time.

But this was not your ordinary peasant -- this was a peasant who people started telling fantastical stories about 30 or so years after he died. And many of the these stories sound a lot like the dying and rising god/ born-of-a-virgin stories told in even more ancient cultures.

People like a good story.

And variations on the same story, told over and over again, are especially popular

The history of Christianity is somewhat murky due to the lack of writings among people who actually knew him. But the two main characters in the promulgation of the religion are Paul and Constantine. Without them we probably wouldn't even be talking about it right now.

Dear Groundhog, we’ve missed you! If you’d like to describe the supposed parallels with Horus’ golden penis, I’m sure the newbies here would find it very intertwining.

Except this totally unremarkable carpenter peasant begat (2010 statistic) the largest religion in the world. Christianity was by far the world's largest religion, with an estimated 2.2 billion adherents, nearly a third (31%) of all 6.9 billion people on Earth.

Christians remained the largest religious group in the world in 2015, making up nearly a third (31%) of Earth’s 7.3 billion people, according to a new Pew Research Center demographic analysis.

Christians had the most births and deaths of any religious group in recent years, according to our demographic models. Between 2010 and 2015, an estimated 223 million babies were born to Christian mothers and roughly 107 million Christians died – a natural increase of 116 million.

So humble Jesus, a poor Jewish boy who was barely a blip on the screen of history, dominates the world with his message.

It’s actually amazing.

Everyone likes a good story. Add in some brutality and forced conversions and it really takes off.

Hilarious -- they talk about what they supposedly think is ridiculous and specifically mention the most puerile aspects of it.

Yes, and after Paul and Constantine came Theodosius who outlawed all other religions in the Roman Empire in the late 4th Century, then we have the Crusades, the Inquisition, and Columbus's voyage to the new world (Catholic priests went along), to name a few factors other than the attractiveness of "the message."

And then the KKK in the US and pedophile preists all over the world.

fervent missionaries really spread the gospel. I can't forgive them for sailing to the south pacific and convincing the innocent local people their toplessness was "sinful" and they had to cover up.
