Wow.. Reading this makes me so sad.
It hurts seeing how many people belittle the jobs of massage therapists. Keep in mind that when a lot of people say "per hour" they really mean "per massage". So you could go to work, only have 2 massages but have to stay there doing laundry, cleaning, and waiting on walk ins And not get paid for that. So that's $30 for that day with no tip even though you really were doing more work. I completely get the tip thing. I think that should be included in the price, but please don't belittle our jobs. Regardless of what some bitter MT's say on here a lot of us do care about our clients and look forward to their progress. I find it disgusting that a massage therapist said their quality of work depends on how much the client tips them. No one I know is like that. Massage therapists, just like everyone else works hard for their money. We take classes in anatomy and physiology, neurology, myology/kinseology, and eastern classes. We too have to know how the body works and how to manipulate it. So please don't assume that we're uneducated and are just rubbing your bodies. |

Why are you people comparing servers to massage therapists? When I was 18 I waited tables for $2.13/hr. That was 21 years ago and their wage hasn't been increased at all. I always tip my MT 15-20% but don't put yourself in the same boat as servers. They truly live off of their tips. Their paychecks are always $0 due to having to claim tips and being taxed on a nearly invisible hourly wage. If they work 40 hours a week, that's only about $85. And you guys are complaining about $10 and even $16 an hour pay AND wanting the same tip percentage as someone who really busts their asses all day and night making a fraction of your hourly rate? I'm grateful for my MT and will continue to tip her as I always have but some of you are delusional comparing your service to someone who waits tables.
And to the MT that claims to really bust her ass and is sorry she doesn't have a 40 hour week desk job.... you need a serious and bracing reality check if you think I don't bust my ass and work just as hard or harder than you. |
How original. |
| I have received only superb massages from the place that I use often. It is hour massage and I now request service from one particular therapist all the time because she is amazing. I give her a $20 tip. I go on Mondays (which is usually my day off of work) and luckily also the day in which they discount to $45. It's a high tip percentage but I feel I am receiving value for every penny I spend. I have constant back pain and a visit there is worth the relief I receive. She must have magic hands. I have better relief with the massage than the pain killers I WAS taking. |
Thats not the type of massage most are talking about |
| I visit therapist every month and I can't afford to pay $10-$15 for every visit so I only pay $3 in tip. |
| Wow. I am shocked at how rude many of you are concerning massage therapy. You know, it's a VERY personal thing, to massage someone. There are many risks. And they are blue collar workers, not doctors, nurses, dentists. They provide a personap service. Service many provide from their desks or in retail or otherwise, do not come close to rubbing someone's nude body, perhaps hurting them, and all the ethics that go with it. If you don't like your job that you don't get tipped at, go be a massage therapist or a waitress, whiners. Your services are not personal. They are to your employer first and foremost. The pressure my therapist uses to work on my body is fierce....that has to take a toll. Some of you act like your job requires you to furnish a personap service when it doesnt. . I tip 30 bucks on a 90 dollar 1.5 hour massage, period. Massaging me for 90 minutes is excruciatingly hard physiCal work. Physical jobs take a serious toll. The ones who have enough money to get a massage should not even be whining. Unbelievable how stingy and whiny some of you are....i'm a single mom of 4 who makes less than 45,000 a year, no child support....and if I get a massage, I tip. |
| What about when the therapist owns the practice? I've tipped at spas b/c I know the therapist isn't getting what I'm paying. If you go see someone who is independent and they charge around 100 or so, do you still tip on top of that? |
Oh, I see the answer here. |
| Whatever happened to 15-20%? |
| What a bunch of assholes. These people don't make as much as you. Is a licensed service. Not a degree service. Also do you guys have to touch naked gross people at your jobs? Tip them just for touching you're body at all. Tipping is how a lot of people make their livings. That means you are relying |
| On other peoples generosity for your lifestyle. God. What's 15 or 20 bucks. |
You said it. Just a bunch of ass holes here. |
what the. You ti d th$ for the service but tip like you can't afford the service? How awful. If you can't pay properly then either don't go less often so you can tip right. The only exception might be if the massage is given by the owner. |
| Im not ig on tipping either...appreciate the service by complementing, and referring friends ...and leaving $2...unless they've gone over the time etc... |
