But always a 30%-40% in the country that had all these ideas and their culture is what is now being propagated on world stage. I was a kid during the Reagan years and grew up on a steady diet of “America is the best country in the world.” And as a kid, you believe what you hear from politicians and the media because why would adults be lying to you? It was very disconcerting to grow up and learn that many other countries have nicer things than we have (whether it’s affordable healthcare, happier populations, maternity leave, or whatever … even better public bathroom stalls!). For many years I switched to a feeling of “we have nice things, and many other countries also have nice things.” But now the first half of that is getting harder and harder to believe.
