Some parents make it so obvious that their DC were not admitted to that particular school. I seriously feel bad for their DC, since the parents are so obviously fixated.

There is a school I sometimes rag on in the College forum and it's not because my kid was rejected. It's because I've known/worked with three different alumni from the school who were both generally awful and also suuuuuuper into their alma mater, and therefore I have nothing positive to say about it even though it's probably not a a terrible school and there are probably kids who are very happy there. I don't think my kid will have any interest in it because of it's location and vibe, but if she did apply, I would be privately relieved if she didn't get in because I don't want anything to do with it.

You do realize this makes you sound really, really crazy? 😳😳

This is not even crazy, much less "really, really crazy"/shocked emoji crazy.

Someone has negative associations with a school based on negative experiences with multiple alumni. This is how many people develop opinions of schools they didn't attend?

Nah, it’s crazy. If you are repeatedly slamming a school you have no association with because over the course of your adult life you’ve met three people from the school you didn’t like, that is indeed nuts. It speaks to a very unhealthy level of obsession.

+1. Have to agree. Starting multiple threads about any one school, place, etc. is the definition of insane.

Besides if those parents posting about certain colleges have kids who are worthy of the top schools, presumably those parents have a more reliable source than DCUM - and are more educated than the troll.

I'm the PP being called "crazy" and I'd never start a thread on that school. I don't care that much. But if someone posts about deciding between that school and another one, I'll say critical things about it based on my admittedly limited experience

To be fair, it's a pretty big name school and I've never met an alumni I really liked or enjoyed with working with either. I don't think it's crazy to be critical of it.

My only point was that there are reasons to criticize a college others like that have nothing to do with your kid being rejected. It's not always sour grapes-- some of us just have negative opinions of schools for various reasons.

I’m so fascinated by this level of active hatred and obsession. Do you say “I have met three people I dislike who went to the school so their English department is trash” or something like that? Maybe “Really disliked my coworker from 2011 who went to Brown, and their dorms suck”? How does this even work?

It does seem crazy to me, sorry.

No of course not. I'd say "my impression of alums is that they are really into their school but the people I've worked with have been annoying with below average intelligence, YMMV." Or "everyone I know who went there has been an arrogant blowhard, I'd pick School X instead."

Well, this has certainly been enlightening. Next time someone says something like that, I will ask exactly how many people the statement refers to, and over what time period.

When the answer is invariably something like “I really hated how Janice in accounting rejected my TPS reports back in 1998 (so mean!), and Toby cut in front of me in carpool drop off multiple times from 2011-2014, and of course who can forget Alicia, who didn’t invite my kid to her kid’s birthday party in 2009,” I will know exactly how much to respect the opinion.

Quite an interesting insight into psychology, for sure.

+1 And severe mental health issues.

Yes, obviously severe. What’s interesting is that the PPs defenses have only made the assessment of “crazy” even more accurate.

I do the same thing for two schools. I share my negatives experiences. Nothing wrong with that.

The issue is how obviously unaware of certain pertinent and crucial details the posters are, with the schools they try to disparage. That, along with the "voice" of the writer, which makes it obvious it is the same writer, continuously. It begins to look like a serious mental health issue. If you are going to raise an issue, at least know what you are talking about, and at least make an effort to not be so obvious about your seeking plausible deniability.

In other words, it would be different if the arguments and/or posts made sense, and the OP was not an obvious troll. Clearly the troll posts are time better spent on mental health and self improvement, than a school with which you are so obviously. not familiar.

I think we found one of the nutter boosters.

By your definition, the "boosters" would be posting as many (or half as many, really!) OPs as the haters. Which is not so. The "boosters", in actuality, are responding to the hater OP trolls, which is very different than starting so very many posts about one school (as the haters do).

It is not healthy for the haters to be posting about one school as much as they do. That's all.

No surprise to most of you: the majority of DCUM’s demographic suffers from mental illness.

There are studies to factually support this statement; most recently by Pew. You can honestly say: DCUM is a crazy place!

Are you seriously this ignorant? That poster is right!

It sounds like my post has really confused you, because you're clearly not responding to what I've written. Are you saying that you don't believe that there is a repeat poster who hijacks threads to talk about how Christians stole Christmas from both the Romans and other ancient pagans, and that you think I am ignorant for believing this poster exists? This is an easily verifiable fact. Also, stop trying to hijack this thread too. I guess we can add "Off-Topic" to the list of forums you've tried to start this argument in.

Another example of people not believing there are multiple posters who believe/post the same thing.

Huh? I haven’t given any definitions.

People like to pick on “boosters” because they know they can easily get a rise out of them. Your best approach is to ignore them instead of fabricating outlandish narratives about them.

Interesting, bullies usually say that - they say they are "kidding" because they are bullies, or worse. Thank you for admitting that.
