Any District families excluded from schools of your choice?

No, both schools my DCs attend include DC residents. In fact, I don't know of any private schools, in DC, MD, or VA, that do not accept children who live in DC.

Maret has a 55% of its student body from DC and only like 10% from across the chain bridge, 30% MD ( I think) and the rest international.

I would question those numbers.

Especially the 5% of kids who are apparently flying in from other countries. I'm pretty sure that all the kids at Maret live in DC, MD, VA or maybe at a stretch WV or PA.

Don’t DC privates have some responsibility to the city and its residents especially since most (if not all) are tax exempt entities. I remember Anthony Williams wasn’t too happy about this, and now I can totally see his point. Why isn’t there a tier system that will allow for qualified city children to get in first before taking in suburban kids (I’d feel better about this if we had a commuter tax but that is a different issue all together). This about scarce resources being given to people who don’t even live here. Don’t get me wrong, most of the kids and families are great but I’m tired of seeing qualified DC children losing out on their first or second choice schools that seem to be filled with suburban kids that come from areas with already good public schools. That’s not fair.

I agree residents should get priority!

I think most of the suburban kids in DC schools come from Montgomery County.

The top boarding school in this country educate high achieving students from many states. I think it is the reason why they have are far better than most of the local private schools.

Perhaps there are not enough high achieving students in DC to fill the top private schools?

OP, if you think the current system is unfair you can always move to MD or VA.

Born and raised in DC. Graduate of private school and my kids go there now. Giving priority to DC residents is a moronic idea.
