My DH and I are having a rocky time and looking to find a marriage counselor but concerned about the high cost. Any recommendations and what was your experience like?

Many pastors are better therapists then they let on and many of them have at least undergraduate counseling degrees tucked under their masters or doctorates of divinity. Couple this with some practice in the field and they can be a very surprising hidden gem for those willing to consider it. Depending on the pastor some things will be vastly different from a regular therapist such as lines about "letting God take control" and a pretty strong idea that right and wrong are black and white but even this is livable and less prevalent in certain denominations (the UUA, Unity, etc). |
Try googling Carl Siegel -- the group he's with is something like PC&CC. He's an episcopal priest, but he's got a phd and my totally non-religious husband liked him a lot. His organization charges on a sliding scale. |
Go to the Women's Center in Vienna. They are excellent, low fees. It is a schlep, but worth it. |
OP here, late response but nevertheless I want to thank you for your help!! |
Just want to say, generally, look at groups. Lower cost and maybe as good, or better, than one-on-one. |
