Yeahhhh, pretty sure I have this on one of my nails. Looking at OTC treatments and there are so many. Anyone have recommendations? Or products that don't work? Should I even bother with OTC or just go to the doctor? Thanks! |
Go to the dr. get the anit-fungal medicine. One pill everyday. Had to get a blood draw every few months. It actually works, but you have to stick with it. The other option is the laser treatment. |
Go to the doctor. DH ignored his for months and is now finally on meds. Unfortunately DD 1 also needs to be treated and I am none too pleased to have to put her on Lamasil and the blood draws that go with it. DD 2 and I seem to have escaped so far. Meantime, wear socks around the house, clean the bath after use and use an antifungal cream. |
Try vicks vapor rub. I had a case that all the OTC stuff failed to cure and the prescription stuff is pretty hard on your body. Look up the side effects. Two week with Vicks on it each night and day, its gone. It took a little time to work its way out of the toe nail(the nail remains discolored till it out grows the death fugus in the nail) |
Did you put socks on after? Or just cover the toe with a bandaid? |
I've gotten rid of some mild toenail fungus a couple of times by soaking my feet in vinegar. You have to keep doing it until the fungus-y part of the nail grows out, though. |
What solution of vinegar? How hot is the water? What time of day (does this matter?)? What type of vinegar? How long do you soak your feet? Why soak both feet if only one has fungus? Do you use an antifungal cream/tea tree oil after soaking? How long did it take to get rid of the toenail fungus? I have this on one toe, and I've been using Lamasil to no effect. I'm not going to take pills for this -- seems like overmedication for a single toenail fungus! I'm looking for home remedies that aren't too onerous. |
There are some natural remedies that can help. For example Aloe vera gel or juice have antibacterial properties - read this article about aloe vera for fungus tratment. Eucalyptus oil is also an excellent antifungal. Another good one is tea tree oil. And of course vinegar, as was mentioned by previous posters. |
When DD was little (maybe 2?), she had toe fungus on both big toes. Pediatrician said to leave it be, as the oral meds were the only ones that work well and it isn't harmful, just ugly. Fast forward, she got a staph infection on a different toe. Treatment was to soak the foot in a mild bleach solution (~2 tbs in a small basin of warm water) every night for two weeks. Cured both the staph infection and the toe fungus. Unfortunately, we didn't soak both feet and have not had the discipline to do it again since then.
DH did the laser treatments and that worked for him. I must not be susceptible, as I walk around the house barefoot and have not caught it. |
Had it for years and tried everything there was. The only thing that got rid of it was the laser treatment. Worth every penny to never have to deal with it again. |
