What is everyone paying for after school care? KAH in the Colesville area would run me about $900 (just from 3:30-6:30) for two kids. This seems extremely expensive...thoughts? Other options out there? |
I pay just over $400/month for 4 days of before and after care for one child with KAH. |
The KAH website lets you look at pricing options for combinations of AM/PM and number of days at all the sites. Looks like pretty uniform pricing at their different centers -- $430/month for 5 days of after care for one kid. I wonder what other centers charge? |
If you're in the Colesville area, your options are going to be one of the marshal arts centers (Tiger and USA, I think, but not sure), Shine, KAH, and Colesville Child Center. Most run between $80 and $100 per week with a discount for the second kid. If you also need before care, you are more limited in your options. I think Colesville Child Center is the cheapest. Thing is, you have to check with your school to find out which ones pick up at your school. |
OP Here, thanks for the input. I can see one of my DS' being interested in karate but not the other! The $900 figure is based off of the KAH website and i do have two DS so it's not looking very affordable! We just started in this school system/MoCo & had no idea how expensive the after care is around here. I've yet to hear anything about Colesville Child Center so thanks for that lead.
Any other ideas? Previously a SAHM but it's MORE than time to get myself back out there...at what cost though? Jeez. |
The least expensive after care prices I have seen are GloIt is more expensive to hire a babysitter. |
Sorry got cut off. This is about what I've seen. Least expensive places I've seen are global gardens and boys and girls club. KAH is less expensive than a babysitter and kids usually like it. |
OP, things to consider when you look at costs are what's included. There are tons of half days off, full days off and school breaks. Colesville Center covers all of that, including early dismissals due to problems where the school unexpectedly dismisses early, in their price - or at least they did up to last year, which is when I stopped using them. I was paying $120 per week for first child and $108 per week for the second, which cost me a total of $9,576 for the 42 week school year for my kids. (When the third was in, I paid $108 per week per kid). They also offer discounts for prepayment. They have the longest hours in the area - 7:00 am to 6:30 pm. And, their summer camp is not pricey compared to what else is offered in that area. I will tell you that my summer camp budget is almost as big as my school year budget, but with two kids in that area, you can probably do it for around $4,500 at Colesville, but that just wasn't ever my favorite camp. |
KAH is open those same hours |
I think KAH is a great deal! It's about $20 a day for up to 3 hours of after-care, on-site at our school, and the kids totally love it and look forward to the days they have it. I don't know any babysitter who they would love who would pick them up at school and charge less than $7 an hour. |
And KAH provides care on days school is out. Today Oakland Terrace closed unexpectedly due to a water main break and KAH took the kids to a park and to chuck e cheese and then another school at the end of the day. Most providers would just close. |
My kids loved Woodside Childcare Center. The MCPS bus transported there from several schools. |
560 a month, one kid. |
This is in Olney, not SS. Sorry! |
What program in Olney is it? |
