job application question

There's a question on the application "is it ok for us to contact your present employer" (standard question). I am inclined to say no as I don't want them to know I am looking. Does that reflect badly, will it look like I am trying to hide something?

I always say no. Or if there is space, I say yes, upon receipt of written offer.
