First kicks???

Anonymous
When did everyone feel their babies first kicks? I am almost 19 weeks (first baby) and haven't felt the flutters that everyone keeps talking about. BUT, last night when I lay down I felt this little "thump, thump, thump" that reoccured every 2 or 3 minutes for about 15-20 minutes. Is that my baby or a bodily function? Is it too early for me to feel little baby kicks?

It's not too early for you to feel your baby. I felt my baby kick for the first time when I was just shy of 19 weeks. A lot of people feel movement even earlier than that (even with their first baby). My baby's first movements weren't as repetitive as yours seemed to be, but I bet it was your baby that you were feeling. Until the little one gets bigger, you definitely will feel movements the most when you're lying or sitting still. Congratulations!

Yes, that's it. And now that I'm at 23 weeks, it's happens much more frequently throughout the day (and night) than it did at 19 weeks. I like to lay down on my back for a few minutes -- seems to get the baby going or else I feel it more that way.

The first time I felt my DD was at 16 weeks and it felt like I was on a rollercoaster (that kind of up and then down feeling in my tummy). It later became a much more rhythmic feeling which i later realized was her having hiccups! She didn't kick as much as move around. All in all it's the most amazing feeling!

Felt my baby move before 19 weeks and I know what you mean about being unsure whether it was the baby or my tummy rumbling. It does sound like your baby moving if there is a pattern. You'll be feeling the baby move more and more (also it will definently be more than a flutter in a few more weeks). I'm 25 weeks now and I can feel her everyday. It will be especially amusing when you can see your tummy move from their kicks.

I felt that same thing, around the same time. I call it "nudges"! I am now 23 weeks, and like the PP, feel that more frequently...yesterday at the doctors they said I will probably feel the real "kicks" around 24 weeks (yay!).

Rollercoaster tummy...that's what it felt like to me too! I had a friend who was like 6 months pregnant with her first when someone asked her about the baby kicking. She said, "Oh, I haven't felt that yet" and everyone got all concerned. It turned out she was mistaking the kicks for gas bubbles!

i am pregnant with #1 and felt my first kick at 18 weeks. i would have thought it was a gas bubble but since i have IBS (TMI?) i KNOW what gas feels like and that was not it. i felt another soft "thump" a few days later and by 19.5 weeks I was feeling kicks pretty regularly. i'm now 31 weeks and i swear i feel like he is bowling in there ... i keep getting these wild movements all over my abdomen!!
