Its been a while since I've been on an interview. Have one with a non-profit in their fundraising group. Is a pant suit ok to wear these days? Or should I stick with a skirt, jacket and wedge heels? I feel more comfortable in my pant suit (nicely tailor with accessories) but I wasn't sure if its considered too casual?
Yes, totally okay!
Agreed - as long as it is a good pantsuit and not separates.
Not separates ? Even if top is a nice tailor jacket - with blouse underneath and black pants that fit perfectly with a pair of wedges?
The jacket and pants need to match or it's not a suit. It's pants with a jacket, which may be fine for a non-profit interview. I have no idea. It would not be fine for any interview I would go on, but I'm a lawyer.
I would wear pumps instead of wedges.
Twenty years in nonprofits here. Separates are fine. My best interviewing outfit is black pants and a fantastic black & white jacket. A bit of style is fine in fundraising.
Thank you. I'm a government lawyer in a supposedly "business formal" office and I see this all the time. I don't actually care whether we're business formal (there's no reason for us to be, IMO) and I agree that pants and a jacket can look great, professional, etc. But throwing a blazer over whatever you're wearing does not make it a suit. End rant .... OP, good luck on your interview! It sounds like your outfit is right for your industry and I'm sure you'll do great. |
