4th grade homework

Anonymous
What kind of homework assignments has your 4th-grader gotten so far? What is your opinion of it? Would you consider supplementing it, and, if so, how?

We were told that in math they would have assessments and review the first 2 weeks, and start homework on Monday the 9th. My child has had minimal homework so far, but that is typical for the first two weeks. I would give it another week until you see what the HW load will be. Just make sure they read something interesting/challenging every day, 20 to 30 minutes.

I have no idea. She did her homework at aftercare, so I barely saw it once a month. No, I wouldn't supplement it.

4th grade - HGC.

They said that they are going easy this week...but wow! Not a lot of homework in terms of worksheets...but a lot of homework in terms of doing different things and then answering questions. Math is mostly really brain twisters and logic questions...

They have things that are given on Friday and are due the next Friday...the idea is to get them to break these assignments into smaller assignments and do a bit each day. So, the kids need to get organized, not procrastinate and manage their time. A great skill to be gained, no doubt...but thus far, the most challenging part of the program. (and they have not even gone ahead full steam yet!)

If the kids work consistently...it's a solid 40 minutes of homework each day!

I've been told by the teacher that there will be no spelling and no cursive homework. Not sure what that leaves.

This was my daughters experience in our HGC. Interestingly enough, 5th grade seems to be easier.

Invariably these threads turn into an opportunity for people to talk about how their kid is at the HGC.

It's anonymous. How does anyone get anything out of Ben g able to say their child's at an HGC? If you want to restrict to Non HGC then you should have stated that from the outset.

I'm not OP. Just stating my observation.

Yeah, which one. Our HGC has had virtually no homework so far.

No homework thus far. Did not have much homework last year in 3rd grade so I did begin supplementing and will continue to do so this year. I have my child pick out books he wants to read at the library and read at least 30 minutes per day. He also does math workbooks and earns special rewards for completing the books.

My child's HGC says that they don't believe in overloading the kids with homework and they expect that they will finish during class time (other than projects).

Thus far, my fourth grader had had two assignments: a "get to know you" type assignment (that was essentially an art project), and a math worksheet with five questions. That's it so far. And they haven't been split into reading or math groups yet. I guess they are easing into it
