I bought some out of curiosity from the Iranian store in Rockeville. Do you know how to use this? Can I cook with it?
TIA! |
| It's basically a soft cheese, so you could use where you use goat cheese. You could do cheese and crackers, put it on a bagel... |
| You can put it in a bowl, drizzle it with olive oil and dip pita bread in it. One of my favorite ways to eat it is chips and dip style, dipping baked zaatar pita chips into it: http://herbsspices.about.com/od/breads/r/ZaatarPitaChips.htm. It's also delicious as a sort of sandwich in a pita bread wrap. The problem is the pita bread in the US is too thick and not thin and floppy like you'd buy in the Middle East. At any rate, you make a wrap with it with tomatoes and mint. It's super delicious. |
+1 This. My family is from the Middle East and this is how we always eat it. It is intended as a mezze item, great with a number of small dishes such as hummus, baba ghanoush, olives, falafel, or grape leaves. We also like to eat it as a side with eggs and ful (a bean dish) for breakfast. No, you can't cook with it. |
