Scheduled c-section at VHC?

Anonymous
Hi, I'm 17 weeks pregnant but already know that I have to have a scheduled c-section due to a vertical incision from a myomectomy. I want to deliver at VHC because of the 100% private rooms that they advertise and it's 1 mile from my home. I'm hoping some readers can make a few recommendations:
A good ob practice for c-sections that deliver at VHC?
What if VHC is full, is there any threat that I would end up in a semi-private room?

I delivered at Fairfax, but I can say that with a CS, a good doctor is going to make sure you have a private room because its a much bigger and longer recovery than a vaginal birth.

I delivered both of my sons at VHC (2005 and 2007) with Dr. Tchabo. Both of my births were vaginal, but with my 2nd I was induced because my son was 2 weeks late. On the day I was scheduled to go in, Labor and Delivery was full and they had no beds. So they had me come back the next day when there were beds available. I would imagine they would do something like that for you as well, unless you HAVE to deliver on a certain day or it is an emergency. I don't think they make the private rooms into semi-private rooms - they are really too small to do that. I had good experiences at VHC - it is the only hospital I have ever stayed at, but overall I was pleased with both deliveries. It is also nice having the hospital so close to home, especially when I had to go back home on the day they were full!

I had my scheduled C-section with Dr. Elliott and Dr. Lashgari. Both were present.

I don't have anything to compare it to, but I felt confident with their abilities. My only tiny complaint is that they may have wanted to schedule the c-section to early, but the actual c-section itself went well. And, everyone who came in to check out the incision, etc. said that it looked fine, so I figure they must have done a decent job.

I don't think VHC has semi-private rooms anymore. Both times I've had a private room and the second time the place was a ghost town. I think it just depends on the luck of the draw. Oh, and I see Dr. Piness but have also seen the Dr. Rossi practice (before they split) and think they're all great.

I am also a patient of Elliott and Lashgari who I really trust - particularly Elliott. I delivered DD almost 3 yrs ago and L&D were really busy (VDay, snowed that weekend, and full moon!). I still got a private room, as pp mentioned, because they are too small to double up. I was in L&D for about 30 hrs and the dr on call delivered 6 other babies. When I was finally ready for recovery, I ended up really far from the nurses station and nursery, but I still had a private room. I had a vaginal delivery though and Dr. Kilmer was on call - she was really great also.

I am also a patient of Elliott and Lashgari- delivered baby #1 via c-section b/c she was frank breach. Went in to VHS at the scheduled date/time but it turned into an emergency situation b/c DD's heart rate dropped. I CANNOT express to you how calming and assuring both Lashgari and Elliott were. Dr. Lashgari even went out to talk to my family who saw be being rushed down the hallway, while hearing "code blue" to reassure them that everything was ok as soon as she could during the surgery. This meant the world to my family. The best thing about both Drs. is they are no drama, non alarmist and take the time to talk to you. Baby #2 is due in a month so hopefully the birth will be smoother.

I did have a private room which was great. I did have some complaints about the nurses though- the nurses I had were very aloof- I had to page one in particular numerous times before she came to the room.

I'm the 13:05 poster, and I have to agree. Wasn't thrilled with some of the nurses, but I figure that'd be the case anywhere. Not totally their fault either. I think they're just overextended.
