I want to step out of the box of our habitual eating and replace rice/bread with couscous and quinoa atleast for a meal or two per week.I feel its a great way to get more veggies in kids and healthy eating.
I was able to find quinoa at costco but have no luck finding couscous at a decent price. I looked at amazon but there are so many varities/brands that I don't know whcih one to choose.
Please reccomend the ones you use and like. I would also love to try your favorite recipes with couscous/quinoa - Please share. TIA |

Harris Teeter has couscous in the rice aisle. Other grocery stores probably carry it too.
I cook it according to the directions on the package and add in finely chopped tomatoes, scallions, parsley and cucumber. We serve it with stews. A favorite recipe is Rachael Ray's Moroccan-style chicken tagine, recipe available on the Food Network website. |

Couscous is just another form of wheat, though. You might want to try millet, instead.

Where do you usually shop? I've seen these at both Safeway and Giant.

Couscous is really just pasta - it's not a grain. I don't think it's particularly healthier than any other white pasta. You can get whole wheat couscous although I don't like it quite as much. Quinoa is another story - that is a whole grain.
We have had good luck with both at Trader Joe's. Neither is particularly expensive anyway since they are pretty basic products. |
| Whole Foods bulk bins is where you'll do the best. If you're going for health, think about wheatberries, lentils, and barley in addition to the quinoa. |

Closer to wheatberries. http://www.thekitchn.com/whats-the-deal-12-14387 I like it cooked, then served cold with milk and sweetener, like a breakfast cereal. |
| You can find couscous at Trader's joe and Whole Foods. I also recommend you to Try Freekeh, it is a great alternative. |
