Professional carpet cleaning- worth it?

So we are hiring some carpet cleaners that's running a special for our townhouse for the first time and not sure if it's worth it. Maybe I'm being cheap but I have always did it myself by renting one of those Safeway carpet shampoo cleaners. We don't have any pets or anything but do have a messy 3 yr old. Bedrooms and stairs have carpet but everything else is floors.

We like to clean the carpets at least once a year, and this time due to mainly time constraints we're going to hire someone. Worth it?

Sure. Time is worth money. It may not be done as well as when you do it, but it will be better than it currently is.

We have our carpets steam cleaned twice a year. We have a small dog and a toddler. I'm always amazed by what the steam cleaner gets up. Those rental steam cleaners really don't do a great job.
