Why do people hate kids graduations?

Anonymous
I have heard 3 times this week that various people hate pre k and K graduations. Why all the hate

One mom with twins in K said she hated attending their Pre K grad (she was proud just thought it was obnoxious) and is dreading another graduation at the end of K. Her older daughter will also be graduating from 2nd at her school. The school her kids go to have large graduation ceremonies for pre k, k ,2nd, and 5th.

Why do you hate graduations?

You can't figure this out by yourself?

I think the hype is stupid. What, we're celebrating that the kid learned to wipe their own ass and share crayons? It's just lame.

The point of a graduation ceremony is to bestow upon students a diploma and honor them for years of hard work and sacrifice in the name of academic achievement. Going through the motions for little kids may be cute, but the kids certainly don't get it and the pressure on parents (and, God forbid, acquaintances invited by the parents) to drop everything and attend the show is just preposterous.

It's too much. They devalue graduations that are significant-- high school and college. It's just silly.

I was invited to a Pre k graduation. The mom invited everyone in her office. There were 16 people there just from moms work for this one child.

I think they are cute. I still remember my preschool graduation from 30+ years ago. I loved it and felt so grown up. People need to chill out.

I remember my preschool graduation too, also from 30+ years ago, back when it was called nursery school. I hated it and felt like the whole thing was stupid and just wanted my mom to take me home already. People need to chill out on the celebrating of everything.

Because it's ridiculous.

Damn. Cynical even back then. Sorry for you.

Because people hate everything.

I loved attending my kids' graduations--all of them. Attending other people's kids' graduations? Boring.

Unless the mom's office was the administrative unit for the preschool this is seriously insane. Yes, many people believe their kids are the center of the universe, but it is in everyone's best interest, especially the child's, if we act like they are not.

I don't hate legit graduations from high school and college. But I hate this "DOGGONIT EVERYONE IS SPECIAL" culture that leads to first grade "graduations." Nope, you're not graduating shit, you're just moving up a grade.

If everything is an accomplishment, nothing is.
