Music

I'm thinking of signing up my DS for Music Together classes. At the start of the winter session, he will be just about 8 months. The class description says birth to 4 years, but I'm wondering if an 8 month old is really able to enjoy the class. If 8 months is too young, I'll just wait until the spring session. Has anyone taken a baby around this age to Music Together and would share your experience? Also, the class I'm looking into is offered at The Center for Music, Movement and Art and Music Together Montgomery - any recommendations between the two? TIA!

We have been doing Music Together classes since my son was under 3 months old -- he is now 16 months old. Of course he didn't participate much at first but now he loves it and he truly loves music in general. I think the classes are wonderful. I am assuming you're talking about the Saturday class which is the Family Music Time for ages 0 to 4. It has a range of ages -- your child might be on the younger end at first but you'll catch up quickly. Hands down you should do Center for Music classes with Miss Cynthia. She is wonderful.

I actually think Music Together is better for younger kids and in the classes we have participated in, most of the children are infants to about age 2. At 8 months your son is most likely sitting up and/or crawling so he will be able to participate in playing with the instruments, etc. There is also a lot of parental involvement in these classes so you will be singing to him, carrying him around while you dance, etc. I think 8 months is a perfect age to start.
