Healthy food & eating without a fridge?

Anonymous
My fridge is out of commission for 5 or so days, until part is ordered and can be repaired. Crap! What can I eat that is still healthy, that doesn't require me to go to the grocery store twice a day, or require refrigeration?

I'd like to not eat out much, although that's the easiest. I have access to your other regular kitchen/cooking things.

Do you have a cooler? They will usually keep food cold for a day or so before you need to change the ice. Otherwise you're talking canned and dry foods, pretty much. Canned soup. Pasta with sauce. Canned tuna.

How about getting one of those mini dorm room fridges? You could keep it in the basement or in your upstairs bedroom after you get your regular fridge back. Not sure about this week but in the last couple weeks, have seen the mini ones on sale because of all the kids going back to college.

There's a lot you can make with boiling water that cooks quickly. Couscous with beans and chopped veggies, toast with peanut butter and fruit, pasta, etc. there are those Indian meals in pouches that are pretty good to eat with rice or naan. If you can get fresh eggs (from farmers market ideally) they will keep at room temp for 3-4 days. Really common to keep eggs on the counter in Europe and South America.

I would just get a mini fridge. Target is great at returning. You could just get it and return it in a couple of days.

Don't have the space for a mini fridge (one-bedroom condo). I would feel unethical about purchasing a fridge and sticking it in the middle of the living room, then returning it for the simple reason of not having use for it anymore. I do have use of a common room fridge, but that's more for a few critical things. Also kind of a pain in the ass to go down every time I need something.

This is so annoying, but I'm also trying to look at it as a new challenge.

Beans are will probably be a staple, along with oatmeal. Except that I can't put leftovers in the fridge, so it has to be consumed that day.

Any other simple suggestions?

Pb& banana (if you can't find small jars of jelly that don't need refrigeration)
Avocado, tomato and cucumber sandwich
Single serve meals that are microwaveable (barilla makes pastas)
Rice and beans stuffed in a green/red pepper

It's not stealing, it's returning. Really? Need a dictionary much?

It may not be stealing, but it IS unethical.

Can we start a new thread of shit we buy and then return? It's pretty common... I doubt God will strike someone dead for returning a fridge.

OP here. Wow. Holy shitty ethics, batman. If I buy something and return it, it's because it's either (A) defective/broken or (B) unused, unworn, still brand new and I realize I don't have a need for it. I may be an atheist, but I've got some pretty damn good rudimentary ethics. Be decent for the sake of being decent, not for fear of some "striking" by a god or something. I don't care how "common" returning used shit is - stealing (and yes this is a form of stealing) is inexcusable.

Now would y'all please give me some more ideas that don't encourage stealing things?
