If she wasn't going to put him up for adoption...

Was this her plan all along? What is going through her mind when she finds out she's pregnant? I will never understand this, but I think this poor child is better off. Can you imagine the life he would have had if she had kept him? I am just sickened by this.

I'll try to keep this short because I know i will get flamed ...

When I was pregnant, I suffered from "pre partim depression" as my doctor liked to call it. I went through a phase where I, not only didnt want the baby, but I didnt want to be pregnant anymore. I was about 6.5 months pregnant and I would think about having a late term miscarriage,a still born, falling down a flight of stairs...etc. it makes me sick to think about that now but I had no control over these thoughts.

Thankfully I have a wonderful husband who knew something wasnt right and encouraged me to write it out since I couldn't bring myself to say it. It saved mine and our son's lives. I got on medication and was a new person. It also helped after delivery with the hormones and I had a fairly easy time.

I sometimes wonder in some of these cases if these women went through what I did and had no support. My doctor said it wasn't common but it does happen

Yeah, I've often wondered whether the mothers in these sorts of cases are suffering from peri-partum psychosis/depression. Tragedy for all involved.

She aborted him. Happens every day.

I think this is a mental/psychotic break. In her head, she's thinking she doesn't want to be pregnant, no one knows she's pregnant, if she gets rid of the body, no one will ever know and it's just like she was never pregnant to begin with. She probably never viewed the newborn as a human being with a right to live.

Heartbreaking and sad.

Many on this forum have argued to protect a woman's choice to terminate pregnancy, even at late gestations. Last year the story of the woman who died due to a 33 week abortion brought many comments of support for the (dead) woman, supporting her right to terminate and that we couldn't possibly know what sort of difficulties she had been facing.

What if this woman's intent had been to abort this baby, and what if she had had an abortion scheduled for the following day or week? Instead, she goes into precipitous labor and delivers the baby prior to the abortion appointment. The baby could have been as young as 33 weeks -- although many babies at that gestation will survive, some will not make it due to prematurity. Perhaps there was a genetic problem with the baby that the mom was aware of. Perhaps the baby was born deformed in a terrible way -- in some way that most people would choose an abortion for. Or, perhaps the most likely scenario; this woman was terrified, had no support, and/or had severe emotional problems related to the pregnancy. We have very few details from the news article.

Anyway, my point is that if you are the kind of person who can sympathize with a woman who might choose a late-term abortion (due to either fetal or personal emotional problems) then I think you also need to find within yourself some sympathy for this woman. I personally think it would be totally tragic for this woman to not get the psychological help that she most likely needs. No woman should feel trapped in such a terrible way as to feel like she has to suffocate a late-term baby.

I take the opposite point of view. Your instinctive repulsion for this woman's "choice" to kill her child is what's right. Turn that around and see how repulsive it really is to abort a 33-week child. That is what is repulsive and those who think differently are working very hard not to see that that is not normal and not right.

Thank you for sharing your story. Glad you and your family are doing better!

She could have left the baby at a house of worship, hospital, someone's door step, etc.... I'm not going to pretend to know how she felt though.

prom mom and the couple in Delaware were similar cases.

Sure, she could have had the baby and left it somewhere under the law, but something tells me she had no intention of doing this. Ever.

Better mental health and prenatal care probably could have helped.
