Poop/farting blood and mucus?

Anonymous
I'm sorry this is so gross... But I'm seriously concerned..

I am 22, female. I have been having some belly issues (on going Diareah, problems going to the bathroom etc) for the last two days (since yesterday early am) I have been defecating but it's more like I just 'fart' out fecel matter. The need to go has woken me up both yesterday morning and this morning... It has contained mucus but now there is also bright red blood.. My stomach and lower back hurt when this happens and there is constant pressure on my anus that feels like I need to go. I'm trying to maintain the 'brat' diet but it's still going on.

I have to work until 5 and have a doctors appointment next month so I'm wondering:will this subside or should I head for urgent care after work?

Please go to the dr today.

Make an appointment with a GI specialist, or see (or phone) your regular doctor to get a referral. In the meantime, keep a record of what is happening.

It could be IBS, allergy to certain foods, or it could be something more serious. But you should see a specialist about it.

These are symptoms of thinks like Chron's or other types of ulcerative colitis which is not too uncommon for your age. It could also just be food poisoning. I'd try to see someone soon, but don't freak out.

I am in the process of being tested for crohns (this is op) which is what my dr. Apt is actually about buy they haven't done any test other than blood test that came back with elevated counts for an autoimmune disorder... But as I said, nothing has been diagnosed :/

Is this normal for crohns

I'm not an expert but I've been reading about the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (I have bad IBS and nothing seems to work) and these symptoms are frequently mentioned as the early signs of crohns. If you are diagnosed with this conidtion then take a look at the diet as it seems to work for some people.

PP here who mentioned Chron's. I just went through some tests to rule out Chron's so during the process became familiar with the symptoms. Yes, your symptoms sound like Chron's or ulcerative colitis. Both of which are managable.

Could be a bacteria or parasite from food. Did you eat pork or fish recently that might not have been properly cooked? sausage? sushi? something at a restaurant?

You need to see a GI to get a colonoscopy ASAP.

If it might be chron's, I would suggest doing the Chron's diet which apparently helps to manage the symptoms. DH's friend has it and said he couldn't eat potatoes for instance.

What did the dr say?

I had something similar happen in my early 20's. except mine came on overnight. I would get a horrible stomach pain, go to the bathroom and I was pooping blood. I felt better after and then it happened again and again and again. I went to the ER and it ended up being bacterial colitis. I did have a few more bouts of horrible stomach pain, but minus the blood. About 5 years later I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. I stil don't know if that is why it happened, but since being gluten free, my stomach issues are mostly gone. I hope everything is okay with you!
