College Admit Stats for Public Schools

Anonymous
Where can I find publicly available college admission stats for any of the Northern Virginia public high schools (especially W&L and Yorktown)? Planning to move to Arlington county soon and want a sense of how W&L and Yorktown fare vs BCC and the W High schools in Montgomery County publics vs Wilson HS in NW DC. Our current neighborhood doesn't feed into any of these schools.

Arlington magazine just published an article comparing Yorktown, W-L, Wakefield, HB, and McLean high schools--reported applications and acceptances for scores of colleges. Of course this was information reported by the high schools (applications) and students (acceptances), but still it was interesting to see. I think Wakefield and W-L compared extremely favorable to the other 3, which are considered by many to be much better schools. Unfortunately, the article doesn't seem to be available online.

They are much better schools, but you can keep trying to sell others on Arlington Magazine's promotion of Arlington schools and Arlington real estate.

Huh? This posts makes no sense. You know that Yorktown and HB *are* Arlington schools, right?

Duh. But there are no quality controls around these surveys to ensure information is reported on a consistent basis. Arlington Magazine wants to make the lower-performing schools in Arlington County look better to get more ad placements from Arlington realtors.

I am not generally a vocal Arlington advocate, but there's no denying that many find Arlington a desirable place to live, including myself. That is why I chose to spend 2 mil on an apartment that is less 2200 sf and that has appreciated 35% since I purchased it 2 years ago. Some of my neighbors have purchased apartments that are very much north of $1000/sf. You can call them stupid, but your judgement would be misplaced because for some this is a second home, and most are seasoned investors who knows how to manipulate money. For a lot of us, Arlington is not the most beautiful place we've lived, to be exact, a lot of Arlington is an eyesore. I've been to places in FFX and Potomac that are a lot more beautiful places to live, but here we are, my well heeled neighbors and I have plump down a boatload of money to live right here, in 'ugly' Arlington. I'll let you figure that out, but watch for the price/sf to continue to outpace other areas with the exception of a few.

And as far as Arlington magazine is concern, they do a good job at promoting the community. So what if there's a focus on schools and real estate and residents. It is a local magazine, they focus on what the community care about which is result of their survey. The magazine has come a long way from the first published issue a year ago. If you're further out and you want your own community magazine, I'm sure there's a way.

Anyone got anything better than "Arlington Magazine"? I'd like to see some real number crunching.

That would require public access to a host of Naviance data. The reporters for Arlington Magazine don't get that. It's not their business to know where your kid applied to school.
