Our society is a mess. People think a 14 yo girl is a woman. See the Hannah Anderson thread where people keep referring to her as have a relationship with her rapist.

Horrible. Reminds me of a similar case in Montgomery County a few years back where the judge said "it takes two to tango." Unbelievable.

I don't think this is the sole issue.

I think this is a result of giving younger and younger kids more legal rights with regards to sexuality. When is the age of consent? When is a young girl allowed to receive birth control, abortions, etc with out any parent knowledge or consent? In some cases, as young as 12 for the latter.

I think that treating children as legal adults when it comes to sex, even in some circumstances, and putting a barrier between responsible parenting and the child, creates a situation where creeps and perverts are able to get away with taking advantage of children.

We have a sexual age of consent and statutory rape laws. I don't believe that birth control and abortion rights under the age of consent for a sex act with others are relevant.

I don't think judges should be judging the victim and making qualifications about when statutory rape is REALLY rape. This judge was quoted as saying, to paraphrase, "well it's not RAPE rape, it wasn't violent...." That's no excuse. Sex with someone underage is and should remain a crime. Period.

ESPECIALLY when the perp is a teacher for goodness sakes. Someone who was in a position of trust and power over children.

This is an understanding of consent I have not yet heard before.

I mean, I have heard that wearing a short skirt equals consent. And that being married equals consent. But a 12-year-old girl being able to get contraception without her parents' permission equals consent for all girls everywhere? That one's new.

Yeah, I posted this article a few days ago, but no one responded. It's disgusting. The same thing happened a few weeks ago in England too. A judge gave a pedophile probation only for having sex with a minor, because the judge said the minor girl looked and acted older, and was the real "predator" in the case.

A 14 year old girl is JUST developing her sexual identify. It's very easy for older men to mess up girls her age and cause sexual confusion. They know they can take advantage of these girls because they are naive that's why they target them.

You can raise your daughter as well as you want but if some teacher is at school rubbing on her cooch and sticking his nasty peen on her what do you expect??

So, 14 year old girls can't consent to sex and are innocents while 14 year old boys who commit crimes are thugs and should be locked away forever. Something doesn't compute here.
