I am a homeowner with SAD. I take Vitamin D supplements to help address the problem and seem to do well with some adaptations in my life like curtain free windows and keeping at least one window open on each floor. In the next year, I will need to sell my home but I am so reluctant to enter the market again due to the need to have a good amount of sunshine during the day. Couple this with the need to live close in to DC and a limited budget of 500k. I was wondering how others have addressed this issue without driving themselves crazy with a house search.

sister, you need to move to a new city. How about Miami? |
Why do you feel that you will need to sell and not stay put? |
I'm not sure I quite get your problem, but we have a house in NW DC that gets loads of light. Too much for most people. Can you ask your realtor to only show you properties with substantial light, so you don't waste your time? |
Get a lamp! |
paladin windows and 2 story foyers |
Yes, I have two of those "all rays of the sun" lamp. Very inexpensive. if you want I can post. I have both a desk model and a tall one I use next to a bed for reading at night. My son likes them so much he asked me to get him one before he went to college. If you really have a SAD diagnosis your doctor should have told you about these lamps as well as some sort of box you are supposed to work under for at least 20 min. a night with the SAD lamp. |
Please post which lamps you use. |
We have skylights. Tons of sun. |
My first client was a good friend who had just moved from Brussels where there is no goddamn sun. She insisted on a south-facing backyard and we found a great one. |
Not OP, but please post a link! thank you for this! |
Get a light suited for folks with SAD. Our home has many windows and light all day and not a problem when its sunny, even when cloudy our home is light. You can find this kind of home all over the area. |
We had a higher budget but our new house has a front door with a large plate of glass in it with windows along the side. It has helped tremendously with light. |
