With my first dd, I had To take progesterone to get a period after birth control pills. My dr also put me on metformin and while my cycles were still long I was able to get pregnant after a few months. I'm back in the same boat again, but not on metformin. When I asked my new dr about it, she was hesitant to prescribe it because of the possible side effects. Now it's been a few cycles and nada. Im wondering if I should persue metformin again with my dr? Perhaps was the key to my success? Anyone have any luck getting pregnant with it?
I am PCOS so I was on metformin while trying to get pregnant and during the first trimesters of my two pregnancies. I was under the care of an RE both times. GL!

Have you had any diagnostics done? Is your only symptom long cycles? Long cycles can be normal -- I have 45-day cycles and all my tests came back normal.
Also, how old are you? A few cycles is not that long. Even for someone under 35, the norm is up to 6 months. Are you charting? Are you using a fertility monitor? I agree with your doctor that you shouldn't be on metformin unless necessary. It may be a coincidence that it "worked" the first time, unless you're leaving out diagnoses that would indicate its use. |
My endocrinologist told me that studies indicate metformin is not effective for infertility.
In terms of side effects, I was nauseous the first week I took it and haven't felt a thing since then. I can take it on an empty stomach at any time of day, etc.
Op here. I am 36. When I was in my 20's I was diagnosed with PCOS and put on the pill. When I was ttc my dd I had an ultra sound and they didn't see any cysts but that could have been from years of being on birth control pills. I have been trying since April and have had 2 periods. I am on day 48 of this cycle and no period and negative tests. My last cycle was 55 days
Metformin for PCOS both times. I got pregnant the second month both times. I took until I was 14 weeks along. What side effects?
You should start temping and doing OPK's. that can tell you if you are ovulating late or just having annovulatory cycles.
Worked twice for me.
