Heck, we did not do all this "volunteering" that they have to do, but I think we were more sensitive.
Niece insists on being paid to baby sit an aunt's kids (her cousins on other side of family) whose husband just died without being paid. I mean just died like 10 days ago. Another niece just had a baby and sent the great grandparents photos by e-mail and facebook, even though none of them has internet access or are too disabled to get to a computer. Another one refuses to do any light cleaning when baby sitting at $15 an hour, and refuses to take CPR. Why then does my 55 year old nanny do laundry and clean and baby sit without complaining at the same rate? Nephew also has a bottom rate of $15 an hour, wants to be paid like the men, but always screws up every chore he does. Oh, and did I mention that if they don't like a teacher they just refuse to do the work. Parents work their tails off while the kids sit at home and play video games. They are all over fed, and they giggle all the time since everything is so funny. Yes, the generation before me probably said the same of us. |
Do you actually have kids? It seems you are only talking about other people's kids. |
“Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company; gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.”

The adults in these childrens lives are enabling them though. The boy shouldn't be able to get a second job if he got paid $15 an hour to do a shitty job on the first. Nobody should hire the girl to babysit who won't take CPR. The teachers should fail the kids who won't do the work.
My 10 year old just got her first job, fucked it up, apologized to her boss, and figured out what she'll do differently at her next shift. Maybe you just know the wrong kids? |
Because illegally hiring 10 year olds or setting up artificial situations where they pretend to work isn't enabling. |
I'm 21, and while I agree that my generation and those younger then me are vastly immature, lazy and just pathetic... I think your also in the wrong... First of all babysitter doesn't equal nanny... I've never babysat for a family on occasion and had them as me to do their laundry or mop their floors... That's a little ricoulus. Your nanny does it because its HER job (I am a nanny...) your neice probably thinks its a little odd for you to expect her to wash your nasty dishes. However I'm with you on CPR training... Everyone should have it but perhaps she can't afford the class to only make you feel comfortable when she's babysitting for you very infrequently.
Your nephew sounds a little spoiled but you also sound a little nit picky. He screws EVERYTHING up? That's pretty hard... Is your neice aware her grandparents can't get email or Facebook? I mean she's sending them to an address so that means their are accounts at least established... Maybe you could kindly tell her or print some yourself - since you have Internet access...? My generation sucks. But we're not all condemned.. |
Pp here Excuse the grammar/spelling errors. Using my phone. |
I never accept money from family nor do I pay. Who ever agreed to pay those kids $15 is the problem as well as their parents. Their parents should insist they sit for free and not take money, especially when the dad died. I blame the parents. |
When I babysat, I absolutely cleaned up after us and left the house a bit cleaner than I found it after the kids were in bed. There is no difference between a babysitter and a nanny except to me a babysitter works 30-40 hours and a babysitter is occasional. For $15 an hour, I expect a lot. For $8-10, ok, play with the kids, but at 21, to expect a professional salary for a care taking job is a bit absurd. Family is family - you don't charge as one day you may need help too and would want them to help without expecting payment. |
What kind of paid, formal job can a 10 year old get? |

Your 10-year-old got a job? With shifts? |
