Anyone here had to go through fertility treatment?

If yes, what kind? How many tries did it take to finally get pregnant? How old were you? And what was the cause of your infertility?

Just want to check what are my odds

Yes, I went through treatment at 32 for irregular ovulation (approx. once every 3 months). I went through a couple of rounds of Clomid, which didn't do anything for me, then Gonal F + trigger shot + IUI, which worked the first time.

You really need to go and see a reproductive endicrinologist to answer those questions. It really differs by what your issue is.

Check the "Trying to Conceive" section to get the best response.

Yes, I went through 2 years of invasive, painful, expensive, back-to-back fertility treatments before I even got an accurate diagnosis. Once we had a good diagnosis, it was 3 months until I was pregnant. (It was a genetic issue that they hadn't even considered. The only treatment option open at that point was using a donor, which we did). We now have a beautiful daughter.

I encourage you and your husband to do thorough diagnostics, including genetics, before deciding on a course of action. Remember that 48% of fertility problems are male-factor related so it's important that you husband participate fully.

I was diagnosed with PCOS after going off the pill at 29. My OB wanted to put me on Metformin/Clomid, but I decided to try something natural first. After 5 months of weekly acupuncture/Chinese herb treatments and charting my temperature, I finally ovulated and got pregnant that same cycle (right after I turned 30). I'm now 6 months pregnant and highly recommend giving alternative medicine a chance before trying the more invasive/harsher treatments. Good luck!

The best online resource for women facing IF is Resolve.org. It's sponsored by the national IF group. There's a section title, "Getting Started," which can answer your questions. Lots of graduates/women who have gotten pregnant will also answer your questions. It's a warm and friendly place, with lots and lots of expertise.

Best of luck to you.

We were unsuccessful with IUI and IVF, but went to Chinese Traditional Medicine (boiled herbs) & conceived in 3 months. Strongly recommend reading "The Infertility Cure" to learn more..

I was diagnosed with PCOS at 29. I tried taking Metformin to make me ovulate, but that didn't work. I continued on Metformin and began clomid. On my third cycle of clomid + IUI + HCG trigger shot, I became pregnant. Unfortunately, that ended in a missed miscarriage (blighted ovum) at 8 weeks. I did another clomid cycle 8 weeks after my miscarriage and am now 29 weeks pregnant (at the age of 30).

OP here: thanks everyone for the replies I didn't post that on TTC because most women there are still trying.

I am going through my first IUI with clomid and Gonal-F and trigger ("unexplained IF") and just want/et to hear if someone here went through a similar experience and how long it took. My clinic success rates for my age group are around 20%, what is very low given that I don't have a lot of money to try indefinately.

To the poster that mentioned genetic tests, do you mind to share what kind of genetic tests your doc ordered? My husband and I had some done, but I think it was mostly to rule out things like cystic fibrosis for example.

IVFconnections.com is also a great source of information. Very detailed information and a huge number of forums. The forums range from very supportive to kind of cynical (my personal favorite), so there is something for everyone.

OP, we did the same thing as you (for unexplained infertility). It worked the third time we did it. The meds made me sick and I was going to take a break after the third try but it worked. I also drank whole milk that month -not sure if that's what did it, but hey, why not try it.

I know it sounds low, but that is actually a good percentage. That's about the percentage of so-called fertile couples that will get pregnant during any given cycle on their own. It took us 3 cycles of IUI with clomid and injectibles.
